MUM Expands Global Opportunities Through Chinese Language Program

The Muslim University of Morogoro (MUM) continues to strengthen its internationalization agenda by opening doors for students to access global opportunities. More than 15 MUM students have been awarded scholarships to pursue studies in China after excelling in the Chinese Language Program offered at the University. This milestone reflects MUM’s commitment to equipping students with cross-cultural competencies and preparing them for the global job market.

Speaking after the annual Chinese Ambassador’s Award ceremony held on 14th November 2025 at the Embassy of China in Dar es Salaam, MUM’s Chinese Language Instructor, Tariki Kiangi, emphasized that these scholarships are part of a growing pool of talented students mastering both spoken and written Chinese at MUM. He noted that the increasing interest in learning Chinese is driven by diverse employment and exchange opportunities linked to proficiency in the language.

During the same ceremony, the Ambassador of China to Tanzania, Cheng Ming Jian, reaffirmed China’s commitment to deepening cooperation with Tanzania in education, investment, and cultural exchange creating direct pathways for students who engage in Chinese language studies.

Beyond language initiatives, MUM’s role as a strategic partner in the TANZIE Project further demonstrates its full engagement in internationalization. Through TANZIE, MUM collaborates with national institutions and international networks to build capacity, foster knowledge exchange, and strengthen higher education across Tanzania.

Together, these efforts highlight MUM’s vision of becoming a globally connected institution where language, partnerships, and academic excellence converge to empower students and position the University as a key stakeholder in advancing internationalization.


Strengthening Global Partnerships: Chinese Ambassador Visits MUM

On 27th November 2025, the Muslim University of Morogoro (MUM) welcomed the Ambassador of China to Tanzania, Chen Ming Jian, in a visit filled with hope and strategic collaboration. The Ambassador’s engagement focused on deepening cooperation between China and MUM, recognizing the University as a key center for Chinese language and cultural studies in Tanzania.

The Ambassador Chen praised MUM students for embracing the Chinese Language Program, highlighting that 19 students are currently studying in China on full scholarships after excelling in their language training. This achievement underscores MUM’s success in preparing students for international opportunities and promoting meaningful cross-cultural exchange

In addition to celebrating student achievements, the Ambassador Chen, together with MUM leadership Prof. Mussa Assad (Vice Chancellor), and Prof. Hamza Njozi (Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs) reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening MUM’s learning infrastructure. Planned initiatives include upgrading lecture halls and enhancing the Chinese Language Teaching Center, ensuring that future students benefit from world-class facilities.

This visit highlights MUM’s proactive engagement with external partners to enrich learning, expand international opportunities, and advance its mission of internationalization. Through such partnerships, MUM continues to position itself as a globally connected institution empowering students and contributing meaningfully to the advancement of higher education in Tanzania.


Indonesia Strengthens Partnership with MUM to Advance Internationalization

On 6th December, 2025, the Muslim University of Morogoro (MUM) hosted the Ambassador of Indonesia to Tanzania, H.E. Tri Yogo Jatmiko, in a special visit that highlighted the strengthening partnership between MUM and Indonesia Higher Learning Institutions.  

During a two-hour engagement with MUM staff and leadership, the Ambassador Tri encouraged employees to take full advantage of the academic and research opportunities arising from this collaboration. He pledged Indonesia’s support for academic and research initiatives requiring MUM staff to travel to Indonesia, confirming that such projects would receive full sponsorship. He also emphasized the availability of credible scholarship opportunities for advanced studies in Indonesia, urging staff to utilize them to enhance their professional and academic capacity.

The Ambassador further underscored the role of globally recognized Indonesian institutions, such as Muhammadiyah, which host and sponsor students from around the world. He called upon MUM leadership to strengthen partnerships with these institutions in order to expand the University’s academic reach and international impact.


Speaking on behalf of MUM, Prof. Hamza Njozi, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, expressed appreciation for the Ambassador’s visit and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to collaborating with Indonesia in the development of highly skilled professionals for the mutual benefit of both nations.

The visit underscores MUM’s proactive engagement with strategic international partners and aligns with its participation in the TANZIE (Tanzania Internationalisation Strategies for Higher Education) Project, where collaboration, capacity building, and international networking are central to advancing higher education. Through its partnership with Indonesia and involvement in TANZIE, MUM demonstrates a strong commitment to internationalization, the expansion of opportunities for staff and students, and the strengthening of Tanzania’s global academic presence.


MUM Strengthens Global Engagement Through Indonesia Study Visit

From 14 to 24 September 2025, three academic staff members from the Muslim University of Morogoro (MUM), Dr. Pazi Semili (Department of Biology), Dr. Hassan Mohammed (Department of Mass Communication and Dean of Students), and Prof. Salum Haji (Head of the Internationalization Unit) undertook a transformative study visit to Indonesia.

Facilitated by the Asia Muslim Charity Foundation (AMCF), the visit aimed to explore best practices in sustainability and institutional development at Muhammadiyah University Makassar and AMCF as NGO. The delegation visited a wide range of faculties and facilities, including agriculture, medicine, Arabic studies, charity offices, informatics, and the university hospital, gaining valuable insights into how Indonesian institutions achieve growth and strengthen their global engagement.

A key highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MUM and Muhammadiyah University Makassar, formalizing a strategic partnership in research, publications, student mobility, and staff exchange programs. In addition, AMCF pledged to donate radio equipment to support the training of MUM’s Mass Communication students, further enhancing practical learning and international collaboration.

This milestone reflects MUM’s active participation in the TANZIE Project and demonstrates the University’s commitment to internationalization, global partnerships, and capacity building. Through collaborations with institutions such as Muhammadiyah University Makassar, MUM continues to position itself as a dynamic center for higher education and international cooperation in Tanzania.
