This recently established faculty teaches hard science courses. It cooperates with the Department of Education under the Faculty of Arts and Humanities to offer three-year degree programme leading to the award of Bachelor of Science in Education.
The science programme is set in response to the ever increasing demand for academically competent and professional secondary and high school teachers. The Faculty is expected to play a critical role in the production of graduates who are able to demonstrate mastery of subject content, high competence and skills in teaching; effectively apply participatory approach and cooperative teaching-learning; and raise educational issues with regards to teaching, school management and administration, teacher professionalism as well as teaching and learning environment.
Like in the other education programme, science students take a combination of two teaching subjects in addition to teacher education courses and go for teaching practice in the first and second years of their study. The subjects offered are Biology, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics.
