APPLICATION PROCEDURES

Candidates who wish to join Our University should apply  through  Online Application,  The list of selected applicants is then submitted to TCU for approval.  Enquiries regarding admission should be addressed to:

Applicants selected to join the University are required to: 

  1. Bring with them original transcripts of grades from schools attended, copies of certificates received and other relevant documents as declared in the application forms. All submitted academic records will be thoroughly checked using the NECTA database during registration.
  2. Legal action shall be taken against any applicant, who presents forged documents.
  3. Furnish the University with a satisfactory medical report from a recognized medical practitioner to obtain registration
  4. Abide fully by the University Regulations; failure to do so may lead to suspension or complete withdrawal from the studies.


ADMISSIONS REGULATIONS

Usually, new students are admitted between October and November of every year. The academic year consists of eight months. [These dates may be changed by circumstances]. Registration can only be considered if the University receives satisfactory evidence that the candidate will be adequately financed during his/her course at the University. Applicants from other countries who are in need of financial assistance to meet fees and other expenses are advised to apply for bursaries from their respective governments, employers or other sponsoring agencies. ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS 

MINIMUM GENERAL ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 

Direct Entry (Form Six)

The minimum entry requirements for the degree programmes under direct entry qualifications are: -

MINIMUM ADMISSION ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

1.

Completed A-Level studies before 2014.

Two principal passes with a total of 4.0 points from Two Subjects defining the admission into the respective programme (where A = 5; B = 4; C= 3; D = 2; E = 1).

2.

Completed A-Level studies in 2014 and 2015.

Two principal passes (C and above) with a total of 4.0 points from Two Subjects defining the admission into the respective programme (where A = 5; B+ = 4; B = 3; C= 2; D = 1).

Grade ‘D’ is not considered as a principal pass in this category.

3.

Completed A –Level studies from 2016

Two principal passes with a total of 4.0 points from Two Subjects defining the admission into the respective programme (where A = 5; B = 4; C= 3; D = 2; E = 1).


N.B.: Religious score is accepted only to candidates who apply for Bachelor of Islamic Studies or Bachelor of Laws and Shariah.

Equivalent Qualifications

Applicants eligible for equivalent admission for an undergraduate degree programme must have at least four O’-Level passes (Ds and above) or NVA Level III with less than four O’-Level passes or equivalent foreign qualifications as established by either NECTA or VETA; AND

(i) At least a GPA of 3.0 for Ordinary Diploma (NTA Level 6); OR

(ii) Average of C for Full Technician Certificate (FTC) (where A=5, B=4,     

     C=3, and  

       D=2 points); OR

            (iii) Average of ‘B’ Grade for Diploma in Teacher Education; OR

            (iv) A Distinction for unclassified diplomas and certificates.

            (v) Upper Second Class for classified non-NTA diplomas.


Holders of Foundation Certificate from the OUT 

All applicants with Foundation Certificate of the Open University of Tanzania may apply for undergraduate programmes if they meet the requirements stated below:

(i) GPA of 3.0 accumulated from 6 core subjects AND

(ii) At least a C grade from the three subjects in respective cluster (Arts, Science

     OR Business Studies).

PROGRAMME SPECIFIC ENTRY REQUIREMENTS 

The specific entry requirements for the different degree programmes are as follow:

Bachelor of Science (Education) 

A minimum of the principal passes in two teaching subjects (Mathematics, Chemistry, Geography) with total points of not less than 4.0; or

A related Diploma/Ordinary Diploma of not lower than Second Class/GPA of 3.0.

Bachelor of Arts (Education) 

A minimum of the principal passes in two teaching subjects (English, Kiswahili, Arabic, Geography, History, Economics) with total points of not less than 4.0; or

An appropriate Diploma of not lower than Second Class/GPA of 3.0.

Bachelor of Arts (Mass Communication) 

A minimum of two principal level passes in arts or science subjects, at the same sitting, with total points of not less than 4.0: and

An appropriate Diploma of not less than Second class/GPA of 3.0.

Bachelor of Islamic Studies with Education 

A minimum of two principal passes in appropriate subjects, with total points of not less than 4.0 or

Having obtained at least a Thanawiyah Certificate or it's equivalent from Islamic schools or colleges.

Bachelor of Business Administration 

A minimum of two principal passes in appropriate subjects, with total points of not less than 4.0 or

An appropriate Diploma of not lower than Second Class/GPA of 3.0.

Bachelor of Law and Shariah 

A minimum of two principal passes in the Advanced Certificate of Secondary Education Examination

A Thanawiyah certificate and or its equivalent from Islamic schools or colleges. 

Bachelor of arts in geography and population studies

Two principal passes in Geography  and one of the following subjects:

History, Kiswahili, English Language, Arabic, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Advanced Mathematics, Economics or Islamic Studies with a minimum admission point of 4.0; or

Foundation programme of the Open University of Tanzania with a minimum GPA 3.0; or

Diploma in Geography, Environmental Studies, Statistics, Planning, Economics or Education with an

average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.

Bachelor of arts in KIswahili

Two principal passes in  one of the following subjects: History, Kiswahili , Geography, English Language, Economics, French, Arabic, Fine Art, Commerce, Accountancy, Advanced Mathematics or Islamic Studies with a minimum admission point of 4.0; or

Foundation programme of the Open University of Tanzania with a minimum GPA 3.0; or

Diploma in Kiswahili, Education with Kiswahili with an average of “B” or a minimum GPA of 3.0.
